Measures IgE antibodies, which the immune system produces during immediate allergic reactions to certain foods. Helps identify allergies that can cause symptoms within minutes to a few hours after exposure.
Ideal for: Severe or immediate reactions to foods, food-related skin disease, situations where skin testing is not safe or possible, or suspected anaphylaxis risk
May help explain: Hives, itching, swelling of the lips or face, wheezing, shortness of breath, chest tightness, abdominal cramps, diarrhea, vomiting, flushing, or throat tightness after eating certain foods
Next steps after results: Avoiding foods that trigger reactions, reviewing emergency plans for severe allergies, and followup with a clinician if symptoms are significant
Not recommended for: Symptoms that appear hours or days later, which may relate to food sensitivities rather than allergies
Suggested frequency: When new or recurring immediate reactions occur
Foods included (18): Almond, Cashew, Codfish, Cow’s Milk, Egg White, Hazelnut, Peanut, Salmon, Scallop, Sesame Seed, Shrimp, Soybean, Tuna, Walnut, Wheat, Clam, Crab, and Lobster
